Financial services group on record-breaking eight short lists for the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2013

The resurgence of video in online annual reports has continued with TD Bank’s 2012 effort. The latest report from the Canadian financial services group includes video of CFO Colleen Johnston highlighting key achievements during the last year and chief executive Ed Clark delivering his ‘CEO’s message’.

‘We’ve continued to upgrade our capabilities and our internet access, and I think as the world changes you have to adapt the ways you communicate to be as modern and appropriate as possible,’ Johnston says. ‘When you go on and you want to hear the story, you can click on Ed Clark talking about the bank.’

Johnston says this approach helps pull investors into the TD Bank story. ‘It’s not a lot of long text; it’s actually something you can spend five minutes listening to and really get to the essence of the story,’ she explains. ‘We can take that information and boil it down to a very useful, meaningful story.’

TD Bank’s desire to continually improve its investor relations has led the bank to receive a record-breaking eight nominations for the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2013, having claimed six awards at the 2012 awards in February last year.

The financial services group continues to be identified in IR Magazine’s awards for making year-on-year progress with accessibility to information, responsiveness and transparency in its dealings with analysts and investors.

Nick Smith, managing director of Living Reporting, an annual and corporate responsibility report design firm based in London, reported an upsurge in video use within online annual reports in the summer of 2011, after use ‘dropped off a cliff’ in 2009.
